I already reviewed the Singapore
Airlines Economy Class seats on my flight from Los Angeles to Singapore but here's a recap.
Unlike the new 10 - across trend, Singapore
Airlines Economy Class seats are still configured in a 3 x 3 x 3 layout.
Not exact matches
Airlines are getting better at filling all the
seats in the
economy class cabin, but when
seats are empty, it's nice to be able to stretch out.
United
Airlines is banning carry - on bags that don't fit under a
seat for certain
economy class passengers.
The
airline last year said it would target HK$ 4 billion ($ 510 million) in cost savings as part of the turnaround, which includes more than 740 individual measures, such as adding
economy class seats in its Boeing 777 jets.
The
airline will fly the route with brand new Boeing 777 - 300ER aircraft that
seat 333 passengers, including 39 in EVA's Royal Laurel
Class business section and 56 in «Elite» premium
economy.
At the same time, several
airlines are trying to squeeze even more
economy -
class seats onto their planes by exploring thinner designs.
My 6 - foot, 4 - inch self was able to climb back there with ease and I had slightly more space than in your average
economy class airline seat.

SWISS first
class awards are not bookable using KrisFlyer Miles and neither are premium

economy and business
class seats is possible directly through Virgin Australia.

On display at Qatar Airways» new - look exhibition stand, which also makes a first time presence in the Middle East, are the
airline's Business and
Economy Class 787
seats.
The additional flight will operate using Airbus A320 aircraft, outfitted with either 146 or 149
seats, including eight in first
class and 12 in main cabin select, the
airline's equivalent of premium
economy.
In
economy class, the
airline will install 175 JAL Sky Wider
seats in a 2 -3-2 configuration.
The
airline has configured its 787s with 18
seats in business
class, which LOT calls Elite Club, 21 in premium
economy, and 213 in
economy.
Delta's 767 - 400s are equipped with 40 lie - flat
seats in Delta One, the carrier's business -
class section, 28
seats in Delta Comfort +, the
airline's premium
economy lite section, and 178
seats in coach.
The
airline will operate the flights using Airbus A320 aircraft, equipped with eight
seats in first
class, 12
seats in Main Cabin Extra, the
airline's premium
economy lite section and 126
seats in
economy.
The new planes will be configured with 12
seats in first
class, 16
seats in United
Economy Plus, the airline's premium economy lite section, and 48 seats in e

Aeromexico's 737s to be used on this route are configured with 12

While none of the Airbus A350s currently in service offer first -
class cabins, the
airlines that use the jet have installed the latest versions of business, premium
economy and
economy seats on their new aircraft.
In a sign that premium
economy is here to stay, Singapore
Airlines — which set a high bar with its first and business
classes — has confirmed that it will introduce this so - called fourth
class of
seating later this year.
Now that American
Airlines started selling a new premium
economy class of
seating this month on its first 787 - 9s, the company has detailed the timetable for retrofitting its other wide - bodies with the new cabin.
If SWUs no longer allow upgrades from
Economy to Business
class that will be seen as a massive devaluation in EXP status and, if Main Cabin Extra is no more than a few
seats dotted around the cabin, most American
Airlines flyers will struggle to ever reserve those
seats if they don't book 6 + months in advance — another devaluation.
The fact that the
airline will offer a 787 - 9 Dreamliner on this route means that we'll have a Premium
Economy cabin to book when upgrades look unlikely and Business
Class is expensive but, on the downside, the main
Economy Class cabin is still horribly camped with narrow
seats and poor leg room.
The 787 - 10 aircraft are configured with 337
seats across two
classes (no First
Class or Premium
economy on this aircraft) and will operate on Singapore
Airlines flights of up to 8 hours.
Singapore
Airlines Premium
Economy Class will provide you with a more spacious
seat in a smaller and more private cabin.
Seats were assigned by lottery — I was hoping for a nice big first
class cocoon, but I ended up with a
seat in the World Traveler Plus section... what most other
airlines call premium
economy.
Since business travel plummets during holiday weeks,
airlines often make first -
class awards available at the saver award level even when
economy seats are selling like hotcakes.
Rather incredibly, the American
Airlines 737 8 MAX offers the same leg room in Main Cabin Extra and less leg room in
Economy class than a tiny ERJ - 140 which
seats just 44 passengers.

Airlines Economy Class will offer you an industry leading
seat with 19 inches of width and 32 inches of pitch, a personal in - flight entertainment system with movies, TV shows, music and video games on demand, USB / electrical outlets at every
seat and complimentary alcoholic drinks during meals.
The 3 -3-3 cabin layout means that the
seat width isn't going to be impressive and it's interesting that Singapore
Airlines doesn't mention any of the
Economy Class seat dimensions anywhere in its press release.
«The Premium
Economy rows are being blocked prior to its first departure as its own
class of service; therefore when the
class of service goes on sale, the
seats will be unblocked and sold as Premium
Economy,» a spokesperson from the
airline told The Points Guy.
Many people like to transfer points to an
airline loyalty program to redeem first
class flights or partner flights as they have better award values than your typical
economy seat.
Passengers on American
Airlines will soon be able to book Premium
Economy seats as a separate
class service.
Normally I would simply book the cheapest fare I could find that didn't leave me in a cramped
seat with just 30 ″ of
seat pitch — this usually means booking
Economy Class with a oneworld
airline where my status allows me to select an exit row
seat at the time of booking — but that's not what I did this time.
Airlines like United and American are busy squeezing in as many
seats as they can in to their
Economy Class cabins (United is about to go 10 - across in their 777s) giving passengers even less room than before.
The
airline said it is keeping its extra-legroom «Main Cabin Extra»
economy seats, as well as its 16 first
class seats.

That's actually good news for those in the
Economy class cabin because the
airline hasn't yet squeezed and extra
seat into every row but it also means that the aircraft has the very old «angle - flat» business
class seat in a 2 -3-2 layout:

The
Economy Class seats offer 32 ″ of
seat pitch (legroom) and 18 ″ of
seat width which, by modern day
Economy Class standards, is an enormous amount of room — we're used to seeing 30 ″ — 31 ″ of legroom and 17 ″ of
seat width on most
airlines.

seats that are 17 ″ wide (so the
airline isn't going to squeeze any more
seats into each row) and a
seat pitch of 32 ″ (so there isn't much room to add more rows) so what's the point of ripping out these
seats and adding new ones?
