airline partners the Barclaycard credit card doesn't earn bonus miles for any categories of spend,
so unless you're topping up a Miles & More
account towards a redemption it's unlikely to be worth putting any purchases on the card after you've triggered the signup bonus.

account from last year's vacation could be exchanged for points in a program you actually use, getting you closer to the reward you want.

While I can appreciate that not everyone wants to convert these Arrival miles into
airline miles, I find it interesting that they go
so far as to say that this isn't one of the core perks of the card, and that this option is intended more to top off an
account.
It's worth noting that
so far Chase has not cracked down on people that transfer points directly into someone else's
airline or hotel
account.
A recent landmark bill in Ontario has banned the expiration of
airline reward programs and this could have a knock on effect nationwide
so you will always have your miles indefinitely as long as you have an active FF
account with the
airline.
One method that may work would be to buy a fully refundable ticket near that $ 1,200 level on Air Canada or other
airline, redeem the points against the charge then call up the
airline and get the ticket refunded
so you have a $ 1,200 credit on your Visa
account.
However, do be aware that if there is no activity in a United frequent flier
account for 18 months, the
airline can wipe out all the miles,
so be sure to use at least some of them before then, or have other
account activity.
Like most
airline programs, the miles you earn are deposited into an
account separate from the credit card,
so if you cancel your card or if the card is discontinued, you'll still retain the points.
So, if one of your frequent flier
accounts is with American
Airlines and you happen to have 17,000 miles in it, $ 200 would give you enough to purchase a first - tier domestic fare (25,000 miles).
I transferred 25,000 Hawaiian
Airline miles out June 10 and the 50,000 Hilton HHonors points posted to my
account on June 20,
so it took 10 days for the transfer.
Overall, this bonus isn't all that great,
so I wouldn't speculatively transfer your Membership Rewards points to Starwood unless you're looking to top up your Starwood
account for a specific redemption, or if you're trying to transfer over to an
airline that isn't also a Membership Rewards transfer partner, such as American
Airlines, US Airways or Alaska
Airlines.
