These cards are the best cards to spend large amounts of money on if you don't really care about earning
airline elite status, cash back, companion passes, etc. via credit card spending and
want to fly in First or Business class and stay in nicer hotels.
Quick clarification, if I
want to book an American
Airlines flight through the Chase Sapphire Travel Portal, will I earn EQM (miles) and EQS (segments) like normal towards
elite status since you said it was a revenue transaction?
I've long said that if you don't have or
want elite status on Delta or American, you should be crediting your flights on those
airlines to Alaska.
However, if you fly often and
want to have status on multiple
airlines, then status match is the easiest way to earn
elite status on multiple
airlines.
To get a status match you send a snapshot of your account with an
airline that you already have
elite status with, to an
airline you
want to have status with.
If you
want a lower mileage threshold and longer
elite status once you have it, then give Turkish
Airlines a try.
And those perks certainly make your travel experience more luxurious — I have enjoyed
elite status with various
airlines and hotel chains and it makes a noticeable difference in experience, resulting in many travelers «chasing status», because they don't
want to loose those benefits.

I have Executive Platinum
elite status on American
Airlines and I
want to keep it.
Add to that the fact that American
Airlines has now added minimum spend criteria to their
elite status levels and the fact that I can see the day coming when we'll have to pay for Premium Economy if we
want to upgrade to Business Class on American and I'm happy with my decision to quit caring about American
Airlines status.
