«Empty Fields» is the first exhibition to explore the archive of
the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) and the Protestant mission work in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey.
The result was the formation, in 1812, of
the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions.
The year 1804 was marked by the beginning of the British and Foreign Bible Society, and in 1810 Evangelicals created
the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions.

His name was David Belden Lyman: I'd never known of this family connection, even though my own roots go back to the same Connecticut landscape that produced this early volunteer for
the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions.

Initiated by a community advisory group in 1999, the project was funded by the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and approved by the Fulton County
Board of Commissioners in 2010.
