He was active both in the Society and in the National Academy, and with
the American Water colour Society, and later in the 1880s with the Painters in Pastel.
Some art critics have compared Albers» Homage to the Square series to Claude Monet's famous
Water Lily paintings, except Albers» heirs were the
Americans of the late 1950s and 1960s who, while respecting the Abstract Expressionism achievement, found in his work a pattern and an intense
colour sensation on which they could build.
