The
biomedical community «is going to miss [Obey] very much,» says David Moore, senior director for government relations at the Association of
American Medical Colleges in Washington, D.C. Moore says that Obey had a rare understanding of the need to fund
research and health professions over the long term.
After World War II there was a tacit agreement among the scientific
community, the government and the
American people that
biomedical research, however obscure, was worthy of generous support.
