An artist who was forced to combat critics and their verbal assaults throughout her lengthy career, Kara Walker is a contemporary American visual artist known for her courageous creative investigations of race, stereotypes, gender, unequalness and identity throughout her nation's history.

This week, we speak to Tiona McClodden (2016), a visual artist and filmmaker whose work explores gender, race, historical archives, and social change, driven by an interest in, she says, «contemporary renderings of the works of underrepresented figures in Black American history.»

Drawing on global weaving traditions as well as the history of painting and sculpture, graphic design, and architecture, American artist Sheila Hicks has redefined the role of fibre in art and influenced a generation of contemporary artists with her interdisciplinary visual language.

Hong Kong Contemporary Art (HOCA) Foundation is proud to present «Visual Disobedience,» a large - scale survey exhibition of American artist Shepard Fairey for the first time in Hong Kong.

This program of the FACE Foundation aims to strenghten ties between France and the US in the field of contemporary art by fostering active collaboration and encouraging long - lasting partnerships between French visual artists, curators and collectives and American curators and cultural institutions.

The first project to explore the visual art, poetry and music of one of America's most inventive yet under - recognized contemporary Native American artists, this exhibition will survey Cannon's highly productive but short career; his development of a unique and hybrid visual vocabulary; and his combination of irony and wit with a reverence for community and tradition to interrogate American history and popular culture; as well as the issues wrought by colonialism, hegemony, and historical amnesia — all through his Native lens.
