As a small, nervy group in 1936 — led by such figures as painter George L. K. Morris, muralists and WPA leaders Ilya Bolotowsky and Balcomb Greene, and sculptor Wilfred Zogbaum — they challenged Alfred Barr and The Museum of Modern Art to include Americans as well as Europeans in MoMA's first major survey of abstract art.
Botkin served as president of The Artist's Equity Association, The American Abstract Artists, Group 256 in Provincetown, and the Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors.
His work has been exhibited in New York, Miami, Austin, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Laguna Beach, CA and in France and Japan and has been featured in publications such as New York Magazine, Modern Painter, New American Paintings, American Artist, Hi - Fructose, Proximity Magazine and Coast Magazine.
One year before, they had formed an artist - run coalition — the Association of American Painters — and in February of 1913, the organization mounted its first show, The International Exhibition of Modern Art.
