Google announced today that it's aiming to improve its
security efforts for its Nexus line of
Android devices by introducing new monthly
security updates and offering a 2 to 3 year guarantee for updates to the devices.
While the September
Android Security Update is now bundled with a larger OS package, upcoming patches should still be distributed to eligible devices independently and Google presumably opted for this temporary move in an
effort to avoid having to manage two major OTA rollouts in the span of just a few days.
As you're no doubt aware, this is a continued monthly
effort from Google to address any and all software - related
security bugs that are found within
Android from experts all around the tech world.
Google's
efforts in verifying apps both in the Play Store and on your phone play a significant part in day to day
security, but addressing vulnerabilities within
Android itself is still incredibly important.
