The gallery, located in Fitzrovia, London, continues to place works from established and emerging artists with important private collections, as well as established
institutions such as the Smithsonian National Museum of African
Art in Washington, D.C. Originally trained as an accountant and with a background in financial services, Mr. Adeyinka has since gained recognition as a specialist in modern and contemporary African
arts, and continues to advise on several collections focused in this
area.
In addition to a world - renowned assemblage of impressionist, post-impressionist, and modern paintings, sculptures, and works on paper, her donation of European decorative
arts, the
area of her particular personal interest, founded the
institution's collection in that field.
Far from an encyclopedic view of American
art of the period, the exhibition is a focused look at the strengths and surprises of MoMA's collection in an
area that has played a major role in the
institution's history.
Beyond that speculation, the biggest challenge still faced by
arts institutions in the
area is creating innovative experiences.
With more than a third of the
institutions in the AAMD study currently offering free admission and 7 % asking for suggested donations, there's a sense that if the will is there — from patrons, government and corporations alike — more could be accomplished in this
area to elevate access to the
arts to the same level of priority as other pillars of our local community.
Caucus members will hold a series of lectures and discussions with guest speakers from other organizations doing innovative work in this
area, and will visit peer
institutions throughout the United States and Europe to gain firsthand experiences of best practices in contemporary
arts programming.
For the Patron Trip, Austin, Texas was a natural destination — with its array of
arts institutions and vibrant
arts community — and was home for Grover, who lived in Texas for 15 years and has family in Austin and the surrounding
area.
Within each of these geographic
areas, the history of the galleries, artist collectives, individuals, collectors, artists, and
institutions — including the South Dallas Cultural Center, the
Arts District, Good / Bad Collective, Toxic Shock, and others — will be presented through the ephemeral objects produced by these neighborhoods over the past fifty years along with research compiled for the DallasSITES project.
The event, which this year had more than 80 participating artists, moved from the corporate setting of the Expo Center to the Sharjah
Art Museum and surrounding
institutions in the Sharjah Heritage
Area, giving the exhibition a more public presence.
