Teams play
Arsenal narrow and try to
pack the
midfield.
In my opinion
Arsenal simply have too many
midfielders fighting for a starting eleven spot already and so the introduction of Barkley in an already jam -
packed midfield isn't going to make matters easier for whoever is in charge of
Arsenal next season.
Arsenal brought in Granit Xhaka at the beginning of this summers transfer window, to add to a
packed Gunners
midfield alongside Cazorla, Coquelin, Ozil, Ramsey, Elneny, Oxlade - Chamberlain and the newly added Jeff Reine - Adelaide.
It's more effective when using a high - line — and you can really
pack the
midfield — instead of having 1 bruising tough tackling
midfielder you attack the ball when not in possession in
packs — that's similar to what
Arsenal did against City — they looked like a 4 -1-4-1 formation when they didn't have the ball and 4 -3-3 when they had the ball.
But much like at
Arsenal, Dortmund's
midfield is
packed full of talent and the 19 year old may struggle with breaking into the lineup.
The reason for playing Ozil on the wing (same as Ramsey)- when a central player loses form or confidence playing on the wing can help because a teams usual response to
Arsenal is to
pack its
midfield and stop
Arsenal from playing through the middle.
Secondly
Arsenal are more than
packed with
midfielders at the moment and so the signing of Brozovic would only make things worse rather than better for the club.
Of course, there isn't really a spot open for him here at
Arsenal — our creative
midfield positions a
packed full of quality players.
Mkhitaryan would have been a perfect addition for
Arsenal, because despite being
packed full of
midfielders already, what
Arsenal do lack is a quality winger in addition to Alexis Sanchez.
Arsenal are set to start with Aubameyang upfront with Ramsey and Ozil playing in attacking roles while Wenger is likely to
pack the
midfield with Elneny, Wilshere and Xhaka.
Arsenal do have Xhaka in the squad but he is unlike to start in
midfield as Wenger will go with more robust players like Oxlade - Chamberlain, Coquelin and Elneny to
pack the
midfield while Ozil, Sanches and Welbeck to start upfront.
He remains a striker well - suited to leading the line as his team require, allowing his talent -
packed colleagues in
midfield to build attacks off his hold up play, yet he has not scored a league goal since January 13 in
Arsenal's 3 - 3 away draw with Liverpool.
However I expect a tight game where
Arsenal might be able to hold out Bayern by
packing the
midfield and defending in numbers.
Jermain Defoe set to start upfront and he will be the key man for Sunderland if they were to get a result, while a
packed 5 man
midfield of Khazri, Cattermole, Kirchoff, M'vila and Fabio Borini will be looking to counter
Arsenal possession play.
