A couple years ago I wrote about my
visit to Augustine College, a nano - institution with paltry resources that offers a one - year
program of Christian liberal
arts for kids who want serious intellectual and spiritual formation before entering college.
During the accreditation
visit, the culinary
arts program was commended for its «top quality» meals served as the «best luncheon ever experience at a site

If you want to start a
program at your school, one of the first things to make clear is that a
visiting artist
program can be beneficial for classes not only in the
arts (e.g., photography, dance, drawing, and painting) but also in the humanities, the sciences, and math.
To answer these questions, researchers interviewed leading
arts practitioners, theorists and administrators,
visited exemplary
arts programs across a range media and settings, and reviewed published literature.

During the
program, which ran from October 2013 to January 2014, Teaching Artists from the Performing
Arts Center,
visited 8 third and fourth grade classrooms, one day a week for 10 weeks, in two schools in Mt. Vernon City School District, and one school in Yonkers City School District.
But even a child lucky enough to score a lottery seat in a top elementary gifted, unzoned or charter school still has to navigate a labyrinth of different applications, interviews, portfolio reviews, auditions, tests and Open House
visits to score a seat at a Specialized or Screened or Performing
Arts or Limited Unscreened or Ed - Opt or P - Tech or Honors
Program High - School.
Through this collaboration, we intend for the Wake County
Visiting Artist
Program to make theater
arts more accessible to the community as a whole.

program is dedicated to bringing
art to the community, enriching the lives of all our citizens.

visit our campus and tour our state - of - the -
art facilities, interact with our students, observe our teachers, experience the depth of our
programs and ask questions.
Administrators showcased academic and performing
arts programs during Cole's
visit, including orchestra, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), the world language lab and the school's newly restored gymnasium.
Through professional development workshops, coaching, and in - class
visits from artists, the
program aimed to increase the capacity and confidence of the teachers to integrate
arts with other core subject areas.
K12 will provide comprehensive wraparound services targeted to individual student needs and for the benefit of the school community: development of strong community within the virtual academy; access to the best and most current virtual instruction curriculum, assessment and instruction based on solid research; customizing each student's education to their own individual learning plan; academic success at the school and individual student levels resulting from teachers» instruction and constant monitoring of student growth and achievement with interventions as needed; national and local parent trainings and networking; frequent (i.e., every two to three week) teacher / parent communication through emails and scheduled meetings; establishment of unique settings for students and parents to interact; connecting students on a regular basis with students across the United States in similar virtual academies and across the world through networking and K12 national competitions (e.g.,
art contest and spelling bees) and International Clubs; access to the entire K12 suite of services and instructional curriculum (currently including K12, Aventa, A +, and powerspeak12) to include world languages, credit recovery courses, remedial courses, and AP courses; participation in a national advanced learners
programs; a comprehensive Title I
program that will provide additional services for students; school led trips, for example,
visits to colleges, grade level specific trips such as student summer trips overseas, etc.; School prom; school graduation ceremonies; national college guidance through a network of K12 counselors; school community service opportunities; student developed student body council; school extracurricular activities: possibilities would include the development of a golf club, chess club, bowling club.
Special features of the Co-op include the Independent Study & Seminar
Program (ISSP); national student organizations, such as the National Honor Society and National
Art Honor Society;
Visiting and Performing Artist Master Classes; Guest Lecture Series; and weekly enrichment activities designed to inspire students to attain their fullest potential.
