The exhibition, the
artist's fourth
show at the gallery, will include approximately 100 small paper mounted on canvas paintings as well as 25 collage constructions and a set of
sketches in response to Francisco Goya's drawings including his Los Desastres de la Guerra series, all dating from 2009 to the present.
The
show includes more than one hundred drawings by the
artist — from early abstract expressionist watercolors of the 1950s and portraits and landscape
sketches, to studies for his seminal light installations and late pastels of sailboats.

The Insomnia Drawings
show the
artist's mind at work: drawings and
sketches alternate with poems and aphorisms in both French and English, interspersed with notes referring to the business of everyday life.
In New York, Public Art Fund has announced that a new public artwork, a seventeen - foot - tall granite sculpture with a shopping list engraved on its surface, titled Memorial, also by David Shrigley (an
artist sketch of which is
shown above, left, courtesy of the
artist and Anton Kern Gallery) will be on view from September 8, 2016.
Even more thunderous, however, is Farah's work on display just down the block at May Gallery on Julia Street, where the
artist is
showing his large realist charcoal
sketches, illuminating another not - so - latent tension.
The
show includes both the seminal, immersive light artworks (including Turrell's very first projection piece) as well as
sketches from the
artist, glimpsing the thought and preparation that goes into each major piece.

The Renoir, Lot 43,
shown above, is atypical of this
artist's large body of small paintings and
sketches, which have flooded the auction markets in recent decades and given a poor impression of his talents since most of them have been poorly executed and unattractive.
As the former Curator of Art at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum, Dean
shows his own considerable artistic prowess at capturing the early heady times of space exploration through original on - site
sketches and personal photographs of the
artists working at Cape Canaveral in the early 1960's -1970's.
Artists in the
show sketch their idea of landscape through sculpture, drawing and painting.
Then come
sketches from similar years, including life studies, with Krasner the assured
artist, Pollock the one who makes every nude, even with skin
showing, into a flayed man.
There is plenty to admire in the
show, organized by Johanna Burton, including new
artists worth celebrating and the greater political cause: to cry havoc at the rising tides of hatred and
sketch out the new landscape of identity - driven, gender - politics - inflected art.

With installation views, project notes,
sketches and models, this exhibition catalogue documents a solo
show by Chinese
artist Huang Yong Ping (born 1954) at Rome's MAXXI Museum.
Curated by Naima J. Keith at the Studio Museum in Harlem, «Charles Gaines: Gridwork (1974 - 1989),» puts on view 10 of Mr. Gaines» early conceptual projects and deftly
sketches out his context — from Castelli Gallery, where he
showed in the 1980s, to Cal Arts, where his teaching has been influential to a generation of
artists including his son, the performance
artist and curator Malik Gaines.
The
artists will all make a series of
sketches of the CBD skyline to be
shown at the new gallery...
The
show brings together more than 270 objects, including works by the
artists Clark championed — Henry Moore, Victor Pasmore, Graham Sutherland, to name a few — as well as works in his eclectic personal collection, including stunning Cézannes and Seurats; and works purchased by the National Gallery under his directorship, not least John Constable's
Sketch for Hadleigh Castle.
Bakalar and Paine Galleries exhibited DRAW / Boston from January 23th - March 4, 2017, a
show that brought together over 40
artists to exhibit their
sketches and work in progress.
Now as a follow - up, McGinness and the museum will open «Studio Visit» on January 25, 2014, a three - part exhibition, the first gallery will provide a glimpse of McGinness's studio practice, the second will display a selection of the objects McGinness chose from the museum collection alongside his
sketches and final image, and the last portion will
show early works the
artist made while growing up in Virginia Beach.
Although Reni's drawing - which appears to have been a preparatory
sketch for a larger painting -
shows a woman's portrait without any symbol, one can be reasonably sure it's Mary Magdalene since it resembles other Magdalene depictions by the
artist, she says.
Going through this selection of artworks, this
show offers a moment to rediscover the main actors, these visionary
artists in a world being actively reconstructed, on this experimental scene looking at their emblematic or most intimate creations, such as
sketches, drawings and unusual works.
EDITION had an
artist in residence Moral Turgeman conducting her Blind Portrait experiment over the course of the week, guests and visitors alike sat for Turgeman who wants to exhibit each
sketch with a gallery
show once she hits 10,000 portraits and Swedish photographer Daniella Midenge also hosted a signing for her first book Sex + Cigarettes which saw every book being sold.
We've featured
artists» drawings in our Sketchbook Series on our blog, and in our print issues, where we've shone a light on scarcely
shown sketch work by
artists like Marco Mazzoni, and Femke Hiemstra, and Mark Ryden, to name a few.
Still, while Rose modestly calls How
Artists Draw «a first examination of the collection and a rough
sketch of some of the questions the new study center might address,» her «
sketch» is so good that I wouldn't complain if the Menil replaced its permanent modern art installation with this
show while we wait for the new building.
Featuring an interview with the
artist by Anne Reeve and new scholarship by art historian Robin Clark, it also includes reproductions of archival and documentary material discovered during the curatorial process, from
sketches by the
artist to gallery invitation cards, early catalogue covers, and historic photographs, as well as installation views of the
show.
Also presented will be Abstract Painting (1956), one of Reinhardt's minimal «black» canvases, a slide
show of color slides, and many of the
artist's travel journals, pamphlets, and
sketches.
