Arts Program Ranked Amongst Top 50 in the Nation
In 1992, when the new CLAS assessments were being implemented, the contract to develop national English language
arts standards was
awarded by the U.S. Department of
Education (DOE) to the Center for the Study of Reading at the University of Illinois, in collaboration with the International Reading Association (IRA) and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
As the recipient of six individual grants from the U.S. Department of
Education (totaling $ 33.6 million), as well as three CDFI
awards (totaling $ 3 million), CSDC has partnered with charter schools to develop over 6 million square feet of safe, affordable, state - of - the -
art educational space across the country, providing access to academic excellence for more than 66,000 students so far.
NAESP and Crayola have
awarded 20 NAESP members with grants valued at $ 3,500 to help principals implement and document innovative
arts -
education projects at their schools and share best practices for
arts education with fellow educators.
Crayola, in partnership with NAESP's National Principals Resource Center, will
award up to 20 schools with mini-grants valued at $ 3,000 to help strengthen their

education teacher in San Diego.
Redding School of the
Arts (Redding, CA) and Journey School (Aliso Viejo, CA), both K - 8 charter public schools, were
awarded Green Ribbon
Awards from the U.S. Department of
Education.
Grants of up to $ 5,000 will be
awarded for academic programs, including tutoring;
arts; and environmental
education programs.
Dr. Grego has received numerous recognitions and
awards, including two in recent years for his efforts to promote
arts education.
Both of these organizations were
awarded funds in September 2010 from the Race to the Top Assessment Program to create national online state standardized tests in mathematics and English language
arts in line with Common Core State Standards (United States Secretary of
Education Duncan, 2010).
