For the paintings in her show at Locks Gallery, the first show in Philadelphia since her retrospective show at the Institute of Contemporary Art, the focus is on Philadelphia subjects and stories.

The artist currently has three solo exhibitions on view at East Coast museums: «Views of Main Street» at the Studio Museum in Harlem, through June 26, 2016; «The Black Show» at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, through August 14, 2016; and «Landscape Paintings» at MoMA PS1, through August 29, 2016.

Her solo exhibition, Margaret Bowland: Painting The Rose Red, is currently on view at Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) Raleigh in North Carolina.

The Hessel Collection is international in scope, with paintings, photographs, and works on paper, sculptures, videos and video installations from the 1960s to the present including notable representations from many of the foremost movements in contemporary art; Minimalism, Arte Povera, Transavantgarde, Neo-expressionism, Pattern and Decoration, The Hairy Who and Chicago Imagists, Post-minimalists, and New Media, among others.

Fifty years after the artist's death, Christie's is proud to announce the upcoming auction of Yves Klein's legendary Fire - Color Painting FC 1, as the highlight of the Post War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale on May 8.

The book, edited by Trevor Schoonmaker, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Nasher, brilliantly presents a masterful look at the figurative painting, a selection of which can be seen in the next iteration of Soul of a Nation, which opened earlier this month at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, as well as in the exhibition catalogue, available from the Tate, which features Hendricks» painting «What's Going On» (1974) on the coveOn» (1974) on the coveon the cover.

Unlike his contemporaries, such as Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman whose art expressed an urge to transcendence, Kline was focused on pure abstract forms and gesture itself, deprived of any symbolic character or «painting experience».

Pakistani painter Shahzia Sikander puts a contemporary spin on ancient art, often taking cues from traditional Eastern ideas of music, texts, scroll painting, and the Persian art of miniature painting.

Seeing Mimi Lauter's work for the first time brought home to me how rare it is to see contemporary painting whose substance is rich and full - bodied but possibly inchoate, rather than style, topicality, or an arm's - length commentary on art history.
