In what Alton describes as «seeking to offer an alternative», it is apparent that what this
exhibition does goes beyond the materiality of the
artwork itself: it suggests a dynamic understanding of how we can envision new ways of curating, while
commenting on the political importance of love, humour, non-violence, collaboration and speculative futures.
When philosopher Davide Dal Sasso came to visit the Valerio Nicolai solo show Permanent Transformation of a Magician
in Ant (Treti Galaxie, Torino, 2016), I got struck by his very first
comment: «Ok, I'm here inside this art
exhibition, but I'm not looking at the
artworks, I'm looking at the birds».
The
exhibition aims to construct a democratic space for all visitors to participate
in the creation and ownership of an
artwork, thus
commenting on the politics of value, consumerism, and hierarchical structures of the art market.
