As an interior designer, tastemaker,
blogger and
on - air personality, how do you achieve a work / life balance especially with so much
travel?
The Christian
blogger sees herself
as part of an online ministry for love and
travels from coast to coast giving advice about how to cultivate stable relationships based
on selflessness, faith, and trust.
I guess, the only thing we can do
as travel bloggers who realise this, is to shed light
on these flaws, to educate those who don't realise the negative effect their actions have.
As travel bloggers or writers it is part of our job to be active
on social media.
What annoyed me about the
travel blogger who» tweeted her way across Spain» is that she preached to her audience that they should be like her and take time out of your normal life to disconnect and think, but this felt disingenuous of her to say after she was hyper - connected to her «normal life» while
on the trail constantly connected with all modes of social media
as she always does... so I feel she «sacrificed her experience» based
on what SHE said she wanted to achieve
on the walk.
I'm not a professional
blogger, in the sense that my incomes are from a source that has nothing to do with the 2.0 world However I think it's a good thing,
as it allows me to be more free to make my choices based
on my tastes and this also makes me independent in judgment, if I did the
travel blogger by profession I would be practically forced to have to monetize all my trip and each of my post and this is in contrast with the passion that I put into
traveling and writing.
As a new
travel blogger I have become disillusioned with the following: social media and the fakeness it evokes,

on doing anything just to make money,
travel niches now focusing
on «blogging tips», posts solely written for affiliate income, you follow me and I'll follow you culture.....
I want to build a blog that's committed to keeping it real, promoting responsible
travel, and digging a little deeper than the pretty surfaces (and occasionally talking about politics because WE GIVE A SHIT), as well as featuring those better bloggers, lifting up the voices of underrepresented travelers through our Voices of Travel series, and publishing work on destinations that is written by people who live there through our Like a Local s

But with that being said, I think
as a plus size Korean American, I definitely do not get nearly
as much traction
on social media, compared to the skinny blondes like The Blonde Abroad who has thousands of people following her and trying to get her exact photos which i have seen over a millions times by all the other
travel bloggers like her.
This post actually started
as a rant
on my
travel Instagram, in which I stated that I was going to use it solely to promote other underrepresented
bloggers until I figured out whether or not I could continue blogging in good faith.
I was interested to see
on Wandering Earl's blog (Derek was one of a handful of
travel bloggers brought to South Africa
on a tour in 2012) that South Africa is «up there» with Asia, Central America (the Spanish speaking world), Mexico, and European countries like Turkey (bar Istanbul), Georgia, Azerbaijan, Poland and Lithuania
as a place where you can still hope to
travel for $ 1000 or less per month.
