Common
requirements include a certain amount of work experience, passing an
exam, or graduating from an accredited medical
assistant program.
Complete all of the following three
requirements and apply to DANB for a state certificate of radiologic proficiency: a. Complete a course approved by the Oregon Board of Dentistry (OBD) *, or submit evidence of equivalent training recognized by the Oregon Health Authority, Center for Health Protection, Radiation Protection Services and b. Pass the national DANB Radiation Health and Safety (RHS)
exam or DANB Certified Dental
Assistant (CDA)
exam, and c. Pass the Oregon Clinical Radiologic Proficiency
exam ** administered by DANB (radiographs must be submitted for grading within six months after they are taken), OR 2.
* Note: A dentist or dental hygienist may authorize a dental
assistant who has completed the course and written
exam requirements described above to perform radiographic procedures under the indirect supervision of a dentist, dental hygienist, or dental
assistant who holds an Oregon Radiologic Proficiency Certificate.

Note: Arizona no longer requires dental
assistants to take the Arizona Clinical Radiologic Proficiency

exam in the area of dental radiography (the national DANB Radiation Health and Safety [RHS]
exam meets this
requirement, if taken after January 1, 1986) AND (4) Apply to the IDB for Qualification in Dental Radiography.
While there is no formal license, credential, or standardized
exam required for dental
assistants to perform expanded functions in Florida, there is a formal training
requirement.
E. Applicant has passed a generalist medical
assistant certification examination offered by another medical assisting certification agency (provided that
exam has been approved for this purpose by the AMT Board of Directors) and who have been working in the medical assisting field for the past three out of five years and who has met all other AMT training and experience
requirements (no further examination required).
To become a dental
assistant, you will need to complete a certified dental assisting program as well as pass
exams to obtain certification, as well as meet state based
requirements.
