The Danish government has apologized to Ghana for its role in the
slave trade which saw an estimated 12 million Africans including Ghanaians
shipped across the
Atlantic.
These visits, my naval experience, sailing my own yacht, and serving as one of the crew in a tall
ship all inspired me to write A Fisher of
Slaves, a tale of the
Atlantic slave trade.

ship to suggest motifs associated with the African American experience of the trans -
Atlantic slave trade.

slaves who lost their lives during the trans -
Atlantic journey.
