This update to weapons will level them out a lot, particularly
Auto Rifles which have been the go to weapon for all purposes since day 1 of Destiny 2.
The current meta is Mida Multi-Tool and
an auto rifle which goes to show what Bungie has done to the PvP.

which may lower your overall effectiveness.
The shotgun has perhaps the longest range in the game, the scout
rifle has full
auto and dragonfly, no to mention the hand cannon
which has an extended range on the first shot.
However, in order to get the Eidolon Ally you actually need to have the Husk of the Pit,
which is a common
auto rifle.
