Is
avenging wrath better or what?
The stranger is not to be wronged or oppressed, and the widow and orphan are not to be afflicted, on pain of God's appropriately
avenging wrath («your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless»).

It says in Romans 12:19 - 21, «Beloved, never
avenge yourselves, but leave it to the
wrath of God, for it is written, «vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.»
He is, in the words of his prophet Nahum, «a passionate,
avenging God; vengeful, and fierce in
wrath.»

avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto

So let's revisit Rom 12 again: [+] Beloved, never
avenge yourselves, but leave it to the

Taken in its context — with «
Avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto
wrath» preceding, and «Therefore, if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink» immediately following — it is evident that the exact opposite is intended.

My thought is as pure as that of anyone, and the thought of the man who is able to think such things will surely become pure — and if this be not so, he may expect the dreadful; for he who once has evoked these images can not be rid of them again, and if he sins against them, they
avenge themselves with quiet
wrath, more terrible than the vociferousness of ten ferocious reviewers.
