Average Billing Rate Survey is an informal, web - based straw poll which provides us a large sample (thousands of replies).

Additionally, the
survey results demonstrate one of the benefits to getting Certified and Advanced Certified — higher
average billing rates.
The
survey measures 12 key indicators including: associate - to - partner ratios; the per centage of lawyers» time that is actually
billed; growth in actual work hours; and the ratio of the
average billed hourly
rate to the
average worked hourly
rate.
* In the first quarter 2013, the 50 top - grossing U.S. law firms boosted their partner
rates by as much as 5.7 %,

While it may speak to both the quality and nature of the participating firms» client base, this apparent resistance to
rate increases was not reflected in the 2012
survey when it came to
average billings per associate and partner which increased by $ 43,000 and $ 71,000 respectively over the 2011 results.
