Paring down the roster from last year, the official
BOS events for 2015 are to include a Launch Party in conjunction with the annual Seeking Space show, Community Day, an outdoor celebration of neighborhood organizations and artists, Cinema Sunday, a film and video screening, and a Closing Party.
Unfortunately, an October date drew smaller crowds, even though organizers had stressed that the original
BOS events used to be held in the fall.

A few years ago I went to
a BOS event in a fourth floor loft that was packed with people on a 90 - plus - degree day and every person in the room was so sweaty it was as if we had all just been caught in the rain.
This Memorial Weekend, with an advance copy of the event program, we stayed in, studied up, cross referenced it with the website, messed around with the fancy new
BOS Event APP and have come up with these suggestions to help best navigate this mammoth of a festival.

I remember a challenge I had years ago, when I had the opportunity to speak at a
Boing Boing event and give away something in their swag bag.
The
event is held annually for the citizen of Queensland to recognise the sacrifice of those members of the Australian Defence Force who have not returned from wars and conflicts encompassing the
Boer War through to modern operations and conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
For
BOS they've prepared PERFORMANCY FORUM: CACHE IN, an
event that features works dealing with Cache / cash / capitalism and art.
Check out all these great

BOS kicked off.
In about two weeks we all will be going mad (with joy, of course) for Bushwick's best annual
event, Bushwick Open Studios (
BOS), which is happening on May 30 - June 1.
We'll publish a separate post dedicated to those
events shortly, but in the meantime we've got a bunch of show recommendations that have nothing to do with

Now in its eighth year,
BOS offers a schedule of performance
events, curated exhibitionsand, of course, the opportunity to see hundreds of artists» works right where they make them.
In order to stay true to the original Arts in Bushwick mission, the organization is going to have to accomplish the complicated task of reclaiming ownership of
BOS, an
event that's exploded in not only attendance, but also in corporate presence and unofficial
BOS parties, all of which send mixed messages under the guise of Bushwick Open Studios.

But AiB had their reasons —
BOS had ballooned into something of circus, an
event that they believe had been co-opted and used by corporate interests and party promoters looking to cash - in on the thousands of people who swarmed the neighborhood each June.
The following day, AIB will host CinemaSunday at Bat Haus (279 Starr St., June 2nd, 6 pm to 1 am), the first official film
event of
BOS.

events in New York City!
BOS has been running since 2006 and is New York's largest open studios
event, encouraging thousands of Bushwick - based artists to open their doors and share their work.
One couple, John Coogan of Philadelphia and Colleen Normile of Astoria, Queens, neither of whom were artists or part of the art world, told me they discovered the
event on a listserv and arrived at
BOS on their bikes hoping to explore the outdoor installation.
