I'd like to gently point out that this post seems to validate what I have found out in my experience, that
Babywise is good for scheduling suggestions, troubleshooting feeding, and evaluating attachment parenting, but
Baby Whisperer & HSH are much better for sleep training than
Babywise.

baby boy is six weeks old now and I decided to start him on
Babywise not because of sleep problems, but because he was fussy ALL of the time.

Mismanagement of breastfeeding through a scheduling regime, as is encouraged by popular «
baby - training» programs such as On Becoming
Babywise (Ezzo & Bucknam, 1995) and Growing Kids God's Way (Ezzo & Ezzo, 1993) can also wreak havoc on how a mother is able to decipher her
baby's cues, since she is taught to watch the clock to determine when to feed the
baby, not his signals that he is hungry.
There are some favorite
baby books, like On Becoming
Babywise, that claim 16 weeks is the standard for this milestone.
The
Babywise method does not believe in just looking at the clock and allowing that to determine your

A LOT of the objections I see to
Babywise are ideas that the Ezzo's never meant to convey (or possibly the text had changed by the time I took the course — mine was not the first edition, and I know they got a lot of feedback and made some alterations as they went)-- such as «never feed your
baby if it's not a scheduled time».

I wish that more of us had spoken out earlier,» says Sears, who has in the past referred to «
Babywise» as «probably the most dangerous program of teaching about
babies and children that I have seen in my 25 years of being a pediatrician.
The great controversy stems in large part from the fact that the «
Babywise» approach represents a harsh throwback to decades - old and widely discredited child - care manuals in which mothers were advised to watch the clock rather than their
babies» signals in determining when breast or bottle should be offered.
I've already read Dr. Sears»
Baby Book by that time, so the
Babywise just made me laugh.
With our first child, I was still of the strict belief that
babies slept in cribs away from their parents, but after trying to let him cry it out via similar methods, and witnessing him becoming so upset with the sudden and unexpected transition and the separation from us that he vomited multiple times and screamed until he could not make a sound anymore, I knew that there was no way that this abuse that is thinly veiled as «
Babywise» could possibly be for real.

Baby Book,» has been one of the most vocal critics of «

Among other things, «
Babywise» states that feeding a
baby too frequently can actually decrease breast milk production and even «compromise a child's health.»
