Just this month, Harvard Art Museums announced the appointment
of Makeda
Best as
curator of photography.
Published on the occasion
of her first exhibition at David Zwirner in fall
of 2010, this beautifully designed and produced catalogue — with a text by noted
curator and art historian Joachim Pissarro — features Suzan Frecon's most recent large - scale oil paintings, along with newly commissioned color
photography of exhibition and studio installation views, as
well as the artist's notebooks and sketches.
As
curator of the El Paso Museum
of Art in El Paso, Texas he has curated one - person exhibitions, authored artist essays for the Encyclopedia
of Twentieth Century
Photography, as

photography inherently carries representational meaning beyond the intent or making
of the photographer.»

of BOZAR — Paleis voor Schone Kunsten (Palace
of Fine Art) in Brussels, where this touring exhibition begins its itinerary, Frits Gierstberg (
curator of the Nederlands Fotomuseum) selected work by
well - known or leading portrait photographers from the past few decades.
This elegantly - designed accompanying catalogue includes complete
photography of the commission as
well an essay on the work by
curator Lydia Yee and new critical writing by Habda Rashid and Douglas Fogle.
An established
photography curator, Sussman is also a proven
curator of other mediums, winning the AICA's First Prize award for
best monographic show for her Eva Hesse retrospective, also for SFMOMA (2001, 2002).
Prior to that, Fogle was a
curator at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis from 1994 to 2005, where he initiated a series
of exhibitions with emerging artists as
well as a number
of group exhibitions, including: Andy Warhol / Supernova: Stars, Deaths, and Disasters, 1962 — 1964 (2005); The Last Picture Show: Artists Using
Photography 1960 — 1982 (2003) which traveled to the Hammer; Painting at the Edge

Curator of Photography at the LACMA (1992 - 2004), Mr. Wride curated over twenty - five permanent collection focus exhibitions as

To celebrate the release
of his new monograph, Metamorphosis, photographer James
Welling is joined by Quentin Bajac, The Joel and Anne Ehrenkranz Chief
Curator of Photography at The Museum
of Modern Art, and Robert Slifkin, Professor
of Fine Arts at New York University, to examine highlights from four decades
of work and discuss his first survey show.
The exhibitions, organized by a parade
of well - regarded outside
curators, kicked off with a three - year, three - part series on African
photography accompanied by a trilogy
of beautifully produced scholarly catalogues.

Photography at the Museum, the show features more than 100 vintage prints as
well as excerpts from Webb's journal writings.
She is an established
photography curator as
well as the author
of The Illusion
of Orderly Progress, Looking at Death, and The Social Question among many other titles.
James
Welling: Monograph was organized by the Cincinnati Art Museum and curated by James Crump, former chief
curator and
curator of photography.
Join artist Darren Almond as he speaks to
curator and writer William A. Ewing about his diverse practice which incorporates film, installation, sculpture, painting and
photography, to produce evocative meditations on time and duration as
well as the themes
of personal and historical memory.
Reinhold Misselbeck, the director
of the department
of photography and video at Museum Ludwig, who was
curator of the current show, wrote
of Mr. Hockney: «He is
well aware the media, like
photography, video and film, are losing the documentary quality hitherto attributed to them because
of digital manipulation and that they are converging more with painting in their relation to reality.»
Best of Art is the final exhibition put together by these young
curators and promises to present an eclectic mix
of work, from sculpture to stencil graffiti, painting to
photography — reflecting the diversity
of the students aged 8 — 25 who take part.
The fair, which garnered attention from the international art market for its innovative research for over 20 years, will invite critics,
curators and collectors to award six prizes — five from past editions as
well as the Reda - Artissima Prize for exploring «the language
of photography».
She has judged numerous
photography shows, and acted as
curator for the Frostig Collection's 2013
photography exhibition, as
well as
curator for an advance preview
of 2015's Paris Photo Los Angeles.
It will include essays by
curator and scholar Julieta González, artist Walead Beshty, and Camera
of Wonders
curator Jens Hoffmann, as
well as artist texts, images
of the exhibition artworks, and a timeline bisecting the history
of photography and the artworks from both collections.
Recognising the
best contemporary
photography from 2015, the Honorary Jury, chaired by Dominque Green (Consultant, UK) and Sue Steward (Writer /
Curator, UK), have identified exceptional work by both emerging talent and seasoned photographers from all corners
of the world.
The four - day programme, which runs during the Offprint London art publishing fair, includes workshops, presentations and performances by Simon Baker,
Curator of Photography at the Tate Modern, Antony Cairns, as
well as «Selfie Stick Aerobic» by Arvida Byström and Maja Malou Lyse, «The Smoke House» by Melinda Gibson.
Co-curated by Georgiana Uhlyarik, associate
curator of Canadian art and Sophie Hackett, associate
curator of photography, the exhibition includes several works from the AGO's collection as
well as numerous loans.
He has served as co-
curator for three editions
of the LagosPhoto Festival, the international festival
of photography in Nigeria, as
well as a
curator for the African Artists» Foundation, a Nigerian non-profit organization.
