If you skip this ingredient you will just need to add a little extra water, but it won't have quite the same flavor, and may not thicken up as
well (although you could leave it to drip in a
nut milk bag while it ferments to help it firm up
better).
The
best thing about it is, it doesn't require straining through a

nuts & water are blended
well into a milky liquid, strain through a
Nut Milk Bag.
You can often find
nut -
milk bags at health food stores but they are easily ordered online as
well.
I blend the coconut with water, squeeze out the liquid through a
nut milk bag and I dehydrate the pulp until it is
good and dry and then grind it up to make the flour.
Cashews only require 2 - 4 hours of soaking time and because they absorb the water so
well, they blend very easily into a smooth creamy
milk that doesn't require any filtering through a
nut milk bag.
Rinsed the oats and used fresh water then strained using a
nut milk bag — not slimey at all (
well, maybe just a tiny bit but in a
good way that thickens the
milk!).
An obvious go - to for dairy free people is almond
milk and it will always be in my top 3 but after purchasing in a really
good quality
nut milk strainer (a muslin cloth
bag), I started branching out to different
nuts to see what worked and what didn't.

Nut milk bags work so much
better because they are already
bag - shaped, don't stretch over time, are resistant to picking up stains or food odors, and can be machine washed.
You can strain this one through a clean, thin dishtowel or a
nut milk bag, but I don't find it necessary — I just shake
well before using again.

If you don't have a high - speed blender to make the coconut
milk, strain it through a sieve or a
nut milk bag to remove any tiny pieces that may not have blended
well.
1) A reusable
nut milk bag (this one is my favorite) or cheesecloth, 2) a few airtight large glass jars / containers (I'm partial to the brand Weck, but mason jars work great as
well), and 3) a high - speed blender.
Once you have strained it through a
nut milk bag, and given it a
good squeeze, there is just a little bit of compacted fiber left to feed to the dogs or toss in the compost bin.
I wasn't able to get my hands on a
nut milk bag, which would have made the
milking process much easier, but no worries cheesecloth works just as
well, but you may need an extra pair of hands.
So if you are on the fence as to purchase a
good blender or a juicer, I personally recommend going with a nice high speed blender and then purchase an $ 10
nut milk bag, which can be used for making homemade almond
milk and fresh juices!
