Hmmm... the same was happening on my PW2 as
well... no
hyphenation on an existing Amazon book that was in progress on my device.
Some of these improvements include higher quality images,
better table formatting and font alignments, smoother word spacing,
hyphenation, kerning and ligatures.
How I wish that Kindles would come with a new font rendering engine (
hyphenation with
good dictionary among the top priorities!)
I carefully examined each line and each paragraph, made decisions about word spacing and
hyphenation, and substituted words, to make each page look as
good as possible.
It makes sense to me that these very small improvements in character placement — combined with updates in word spacing, the addition of
hyphenation and drop caps to emphasize the first word of a chapter — will add up to
better readability for the Kindle 3.
To do that, it ensures consistency (within a document and across multiple documents) and enforces
best practice in usage and in language composition, visual composition, orthography (including spelling, capitalization,
hyphenation, and other punctuation), and typography.
