Not to give away any spoilers about the end of this movie, but I can't have been the only one disappointed that given this cast — which I will list alphabetically so as to not give anything away — including Demian Bichir, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Danny McBride, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, and Katherine Waterston, we end up with the two end - game characters that we do.

Paranoia, guns, shacks, prisoners, a laundry list of great character actors (Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Gene Jones, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Zoe Bell) and a lot of excellent dialogue.

Well, perhaps you were distracted for the 1.5 seconds where their relationship is acknowledged, but, yes, the crew members played by Demian Bichir and Nathaniel Dean are indeed married (as are all the characters we meet on the Covenant).

Demian Bichir so obviously deserves a spot in the Top Five, without my having even seen the fourth quarter of Oscar hopefuls.

Even though Bichir keeps his performance in the minor keys, he's too strong a presence not to shove Trejo's Machete into the background, and since a good portion of the story follows their journey through Mexico toward the U.S. border, that undermines the film as a whole.

The proprietor, Minnie, is not there, having left the shop in the hands of a mumbling Mexican man named Bob (Demian Bichir having a great deal of fun).

Instead of keeping him as the center of the story, however, this installment is hijacked by Demian Bichir as Mendez, who starts off as a Mexican villain before quickly morphing into a man suffering from multiple - personality disorder.
