at which family influences are pervasive and school influence nil (see the article by Roland Fryer and Steven Levitt).

Black academic
achievement gaps have been made unusually worse.
The difference in the rate
at which
black, Hispanic, and white students go to school with poor classmates is the best predictor of the racial -
achievement gap.
The other thing that's really bad news: I think for the first time on
at least some of those measures, our
black students performed worse than some states that traditionally have the lowest
achievement rates.
One confusing but important finding is that that simply closing the racial
achievement gap
at each individual college would not be enough to ensure that
black and white students graduate
at the same rate overall.
The federal government just released a report looking
at the
black - white
achievement gap.
