educator with a mix of research and first - hand experience.

Educators Resource Association, or NBHERA.

Presenters will share specific initiatives and strategies developed through their participation
in the NIC process to demonstrate how NIC - developed approaches can be adapted locally to advance a common goal —
in this case, to increase the percentage of
Black and Hispanic / Latino men receiving initial teaching certification through
educator preparation programs.
And as we see first - hand
in neighborhoods across New York and Connecticut, charter schools are creating avenues of hope
in historically underserved
Black communities, empowering
Black educators and families, and educating the young
Black leaders of tomorrow
in unique and innovative ways.
We found that
black educators are promoted and earn their master's degrees much later
in their career than white
educators.
Missing from both platforms is the voice of
Black people who choose charter schools, students who are well served by them,
educators who work
in them, or staff working
in education philanthropies that support them.
Our students need to be exposed to more
black male
educators especially during their tenure
in early childhood classrooms.
As a veteran
black male
educator, I frequently overhear many of my female colleagues speak about the need for more male teachers
in the building.
