Black teachers bring unique skills to their work that often go far beyond their roles as content experts and instructors.

black men into the teaching profession).
These
teachers have the ability to create examples that
bring the curriculum to life for students, and their own lived experiences can be used to help their students (especially
black males) connect to and maximize learning opportunities.
Does it make sense to
bring in «
teachers» who know absolutely nothing about the cultural norms and idiosyncrasies that apply to the
Black community, especially a community like New Orleans?
I have had
teachers consult me about
bringing criminal charges against
black boys because of incidents that were very damaging, but could have been resolved by asking me to model the appropriate adult behavior to mend the student -
teacher relationship.

As I witness Cunningham's reconstructed choreography performed, [1] I realize that this moment perfectly captures the interdisciplinary, collaborative, and horizontal drive of
Black Mountain College as it
