When lawyers who are new to Twitter ask me how to find other lawyers to follow, I
point them to either of two directories, LexTweet, operated by the folks at
legal blog company LexBlog, and LegalBirds, part of the Justia
legal portal.
The
blog posts» organization varied by topic, but generally followed a useful and traditional pattern of setting up a
legal issue, giving the relevant factual and
legal background on
point, and then discussing implications or recommendations.

Before you despair of the time, energy and personal or even firm resources you're pouring into your
legal blog (s), I would
point out a couple of things:

For example, procedural questions may turn on unfamiliar sources of enacted law — such as court local rules or judges» administrative or standing orders — that may be more conveniently found on a given court's official website than on Lexis or Westlaw, if they are available on subscription databases at all.60 And for practicing attorneys, jurisdiction - specific forms and the previous work of other attorneys who have done similar things can be valuable resources.61 So
legal blogs, firm white papers, and actual filings available through PACER or Bloomberg Law can be valuable tools — at least as a jumping - off
point.
After reviewing a number of data
points from Ms. Miller's
blog post, Mr. O'Keefe applies the statistics to the
legal sector.
You could argue that if a number of your clients are already on Facebook, you could set up a Group and invite them to join you for updates on various
legal points, or to feed in your
blog posts — this would be a sensible example of marketing to your existing client base.
In fact, one of the posts on this site mentioned in this
blog (https://abovethelaw.com/2010/05/mean-
blog-comments-end-quest-to-go-to-law-school-for-free/)
points to how the real problem is the ridiculously high cost of a
legal education.
The
point of this
blog is to help spread employment law information and views in a way that's not as «corporate» as the big firms» newsletters, but has more
legal bones for you to pick at than reports in the mainstream media.
From a field of hundreds of potential nominees, Basis
Points has received enough nominations to join one of the largest competitions for
legal blog writing online today.
As we highlight another year of great Canadian
legal blog content, I'd like to start by

point, given that their value proposition has been obvious for years (I would add, at least to those able and willing to see).
As evidence, she
points to LexMonitor's directory of Am Law 200
blogs — a befuddling choice of proof given that the Am Law 200 is about as far away from a comprehensive representation of the
legal blogosphere as one can get.
Although I was going to
blog at some
point on using the iPad for
legal work (e.g., including the useful tip to use the «two finger swipe technique» to properly scroll pages when using the Safari browser on iPad when searching Westlaw or Lexis — see video here for the technique, which works), the reality is that the iPad has been for me an entertainment device.
Orin Kerr, at the libertarian
legal blog The Volokh Conspiracy,
points to a new study claiming that laws prohibiting cell phone use while driving have not succeeded in reducing car crashes.
His principal message:
legal blogs / blawgs are an institution at this
point, and while new entrants are always welcome when they bring something of value to the table, it pays them to recognize that they are not the first to arrive at that table and more than a few courses have already been served.
