In an effort to celebrate Simcoe County's diversity while providing a resource for
building cultural competency, Simcoe County Libraries have teamed up to provide book club kits with titles designed to educate and enlighten readers from all backgrounds.
Building cultural competency requires studying the traditions and values of a community, seeking to understand through authentic community engagement, intentionally building trust within a community, and considering their contributions and ideas.
This will not help
build cultural competency across the organisation and it will only serve to marginalise the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and can contribute to staff burn out.
