Qatar Airways flys all across Asia
from its Doha base and a lot of those routes earn 140 Tier Points too — flying
from Europe to Asia on a cheap Qatar Airways
Business Class fare can therefore net you up to 560 Tier Points (just 40 short of Silver status).
British Airways also has a nice

The even better news is that highly discounted
Business Class fares (Q
fare code) will go
from earning zero miles to earning miles at a rate of 130 % of the distance flown
from 29 October 2017.
It is also possible to upgrade
from business class to first
class, but there are still restrictions that require you to purchase a J, C or D
business class fare.

I've been on the look out for good
fares since the beginning of August and, while American did post a somewhat tempting Economy
Class fare from London back in September, the
Business Class fares out of Europe have come nowhere near what I'm prepared to pay....

If American's SWUs only allow upgrades
from Economy to Premium Economy it could be a lot cheaper to pay for a more expensive economy
fare on United and upgrade
from there into
Business Class than to pay for Premium Economy on American and upgrade to
Business from there.
Award Chart devaluations, Partner award chart devaluations, slashed mileage earnings, and a reduction in the number of SWUs handed out have all been bitter pills to swallow in the past few weeks but, for me, losing the ability to upgrade into
Business Class from an Economy
fare would probably be the final straw.
