Calibre file conversion software is making it possible for authors to convert their Open Office, Word, and other text files to formats that are compatible with numerous e-readers through Windows, OS, and Linux.

conversion, you'll see the new EPUB
file listed in
calibre's right sidebar, with a «Click to open» link to open its folder.

conversion before it's transferred to your device, there is a free
conversion app called
Calibre that is designed to do exactly that: convert a DRM - free eBook from one format to another.
I recommend using Sigil because it's a free program and because it allows you to create a clean, optimized
file — I've had a lot of trouble with
Calibre in the past, getting error messages and then not being able to upload to different distribution channels, and straight up Word doc
conversions tend to be messy and end up not looking the way I want.
Stanza's desktop app does rudimentary
file conversion, and for anything Stanza can't handle, you can break out
Calibre.
But now, with
Calibre's new feature, you can take a well - formatted Word doc, hand it straight off to the «industry standard»
conversion tool, and generate well - formatted
files suitable for submission to the Kindle, Nook, iBooks, and Play marketplaces.

files as im sure you know.

However I also discovered
Calibre around the same time, and its
file format
conversion capabilities meant that being restricted to Nook mode wasn't so bad after all, and that's how things remain to this day.
(Amazon's mobi is also considered proprietary but at least you can use a free
conversion tool like
Calibre to create an EPUB
file from a non-DRM mobi
file.
Smashwords actually prefers Word docs — and will allow you to download your converted
file in ePub format after they've run it through their famous «Meat Grinder»
conversion tool (it's actually a customized version of the software at the heart of
Calibre).
And of course, as I mentioned above,
Calibre contains a WYSIWYG ebook editor that allows you to clean up your ePub
file after the
conversion.
There are plenty of free computer programs that will quickly and easily convert one
file format to another (my e-book
file format
conversion / organization program of choice is called
Calibre, and it's free).
My suggestion for pdb
files — download
calibre, and do batch
conversions, or use an online converter website to do the same.
