Even my wife, a nearly peerless Soul
Calibur player struggled with this title.

While I'm mildly disappointed in the linear and rather limited single
player mode here in Soul
Calibur V, the simple fact that Namco caught up to Capcom's feature sets in the online department is a pretty big deal.
SUMMARY: Soul
Calibur V still brings an unmatched clash of swords with its weapons - based brawls, but its paltry single -
player content is an absolute insult to the series» substantial legacy.
Soul
Calibur V, on the other hand, relies solely on the presence of other
players to provide enjoyment — and when Namco Bandai eventually shuts down the online component a year or two from now, all that'll be left will be a malnourished husk of a game.
In general, the game's faster and more responsive than Soul
Calibur IV; ring - outs are less plentiful but still possible for skilled
players, which means that battles are generally decided on skill instead of luck, based on my experiences.
Meanwhile, I can still go back to the 15 - year - old Soul Edge — a game whose legendary intro imparts more storytelling and characterization than the entirety of Soul
Calibur V — and find a worthwhile single -
player experience.
It's clear the developers had a grand vision that was squashed by the realities of budgets, but this fact remains: Every previous Soul
Calibur offered ample, rewarding single -
player content, and I can't see any reason why this game couldn't or shouldn't have done the same.

The sword and shield allows
players to build up attack power while in a defensive pose and then unleash it by swapping over to a specialized attack form, but I personally opted for the new chain whip — think Ivy from Soul
Calibur, only with the option to chuck dozens of kunai into enemies and explode them at will.
The previous entries in the Soul franchise have been known for its excellent single -
player content, and Soul
Calibur IV had an amazing net code; SC V has none of that.

players, the game has been out for little more then a month, you've chosen your favorite character, spent some time in the training room, and won a good handful of matches online.
Aside from the direct sequel, you have Soul
Calibur 5 and SF x Tekken, both of which have Tekken
players going to them for the time being.
This monumental collaboration will let
players control Ezio and his wide range of assassination tools including a Roman Longsword, Stiletto, Crossbow, Hidden gun and his trademark Hidden blade when Soul
Calibur V releases on February 3rd, 2012.
For one, it's really just based on
player positioning, while the other has more to do with the core mechanics of the game; Dead or Alive is a series that's supposed to look fluid and feel like there's a true 3D environment in a fashion that's very similar to Soul
Calibur.
Personally, I sunk in a few thousand hours into Soul
Calibur IV and enjoyed going toe - to - toe with the highest ranking
players in the world, and I'll never forget my time with that game.
The single
player revists the original Soul
Calibur to expand on the lore of the world.
