Michael Cera backlash: I thought
Cera made a fine Scott Pilgrim, but some folks are very vocally burnt out by his semi-twee brand of comedy.

Cera's understatement and the sneaking suspicion that his character was also overwritten, but pruned by a guy whose wisdom about the limits of his abilities
makes up for his general lack of range.
Then there are elements of the film that kick it up to a different level, like
making Michael
Cera a drugged up, womanizing version of himself and
making Jonah Hill a terribly positive, sensitive soul.
Jason Segal, Michael
Cera, Rihanna, Paul Rudd and of course the gorgeous Emma Watson all
make hilarious appearances.
The indie credibility of
Cera alone is enough to
make hipsters wet themselves, but paired with Shaun of the Dead director, Edgar Wright and it's a dream come true.
Michael
Cera would
make a really sweet Robin.
Since then,
Cera has been
making two films with director Silva — Magic Magic and Crystal Fairy.
You won't get to see Michael
Cera and Alison Pill act out that part of the book, but Adult Swim has
made it possible to see the next best thing —
Cera and Pill lending their voices to an animated take on the flashback
Paper Heart (PG - 13 for profanity) Romantic comedy revolving around a jaded young woman (Charlene Yi) who meets the guy of her dreams (Michael
Cera) while traveling across the country interviewing people for a documentary she's
making about the meaning of love.
But when an NPR guy like Edelstein (who, by the way, did not particularly like Wright's last movie, «Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,» though he laid most of the blame on its star, Michael
Cera) comes along and pulls out the superlatives, it's enough to
make you pull this out of your DVD library to kill the time between now and Friday.
The film Michael
Cera and the filmmakers initially set out to
make before the mediocre diversion that was Crystal Fairy, I have yet to see it... and apparently am not alone.
Worst - case scenario: Current Hamburger fans go in expecting something closer to a stand - up special, and instead are confounded by the numerous scenes of him staring miserably into the desert,
making sad phone calls to his daughter, or interacting with various oddballs played by various famous people (like John C. Reilly and Michael
Cera).
Chris will soon be
making his Broadway debut in the upcoming play Lobby Hero alongside Michael
Cera.
Schwartzman's performance is so one note, he
makes Cera look deep.
Some of the characters are even heartwarming and charming, such as Barry (Michael
Cera) as a defective hot dog often bullied by his peers; he goes through the tried - and - true story arc of finding courage while also realizing that his differences don't
make him any less of a person... err, piece of meat, and it's a joy to watch.
And when in doubt, the man who once gave us «Ghostbusters» and «Caddyshack» resorts to
making Jack Black eat feces and Michael
Cera pee in his own mouth.
It's about a odd, smarter - beyond - her - years (which
makes her an outcast), 16 - year old girl, Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page) who, in a moment of weakness, gets herself pregnant by pencil - thin, track star Paulie Bleeker (Michael
Cera).

There's the obvious problem of Page's and
Cera's characters both being in high school — Juno is old enough to get pregnant but young enough to
make a meal of rope candy and Sunny - D; also, they're really only friends.
