Yes, I would agree with Dr. Davis and
others that nuts, seeds, coconut, and avocado can
certainly play a beneficial role in a healthy
diet, and being plants,
certainly they all have unique phytonutrients, but of course as he mentions, watch the calories.
And while fiber
certainly does keep us regular and feeling full (which is why it's added to so many
diet and «health» food - like products), there are a number of
other critical benefits of fiber.
But unlike many
other diets low in carbohydrates, Dr. Aitkin's
Diet for example, the original Trowbridge
Diet wasn't recommended primarily as a weight loss
diet, although you will most
certainly lose weight on Dr. Trowbridge's
diet if you have weight to lose, particularly if you follow it well.
While a lot of research into low carb eating as it pertains to treating or preventing disease is far from conclusive, a low carb
diet certainly results in weight loss and is especially important in regards to metabolic and insulin - related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and

I can confirm that a strict fruitarian
diet can
certainly lead to low protein levels... as a strict fruitarian for a number of years (2 - 3 I estimate, but actually 5 if i count the time i ate minimal amounts of salad materials as well...), I had blood tests done at the end of this time and indeed my protein levels were low... other thing that has significantly changed in my life is that I'm eating a lot fewer carbs — yet everything I've read (and not just on this site) is that a low - carb
diet should help asthma, not make it worse (I did not have much weight to lose when I did the Two Week Test, but over the last few months, I've lost that little bit of extra weight and I've
certainly lost fat and gained muscle, and I feel healthier — apart from the asthma — than before, so I would say a low - carb
diet is working for me).
If you've opted to drop gluten from your
diet for weight loss or
other nonmedical reasons, you can
certainly enjoy sprouted breads as an occasional treat if you wish.
One may conclude from this evidence that the effect is very modest (compared to
