Add Bengal gram (channa dal), black gram (urad dal), broken red chilies, grated coconut, cashew nuts and fry till they turn golden brown in colour.
Then grind the channa dal (split chickpeas) with cumin seeds, fennel seeds, green chillies, ginger, garlic and salt.
Heat the vegetable oil in a casserole on top of the stove and add the mustard seeds and channa dal.
I make a channa dal and dill pilau which is really good too.
Looks like I have to try the channa dal and dill pilau, it sounds like it would be right up my alley:)
