Sure it's a bit of a ding on the old credit score in the short term, but in the long term it's not a problem at all and my card gives me 5 points for every dollar at gas stations and grocery stores — redeemable for checks made out to the holder of my student loans!

i have had reposessions and old credit card debt returned checks and everything else removed from my credit simply by disputing stuff online myself.

You can then call the customer service for your old card and request a check for the amount of the credit balance.

Even with a ding from a credit check, you're not going to do much damage to your score by upgrading, unless this card is the oldest — or only — card in your wallet and Chase reports the upgrade as a closed and reopened account.

So opt out of those old school junk - mail offers and simply check back with us anytime you're looking for a new credit card.

Older adults are often targeted, innocently giving out private information such as their credit card number or checking account number.

Even if you've never had a credit card, it would be a good idea to check your credit score just in case any old debts or bills you've forgotten about / defaulted on are already pulling your credit score down, or if your identity has been stolen and your credit history now has fraudulent information.
