If memory serves me correctly, the bible reports quite often when
Christ was on Earth that he sat and ate with those condemned
as sinners and he quite often, and openly, criticized the closed minded
religious leaders of his day.
Known
as the
Religious Right, vocal Christian
leaders on radio and television convinced an entire generation of evangelicals that faithfulness to
Christ meant voting for the Republican Party.
Yes, you are correct that the
religious leaders of Christendom gave their blessing to its members to kill others «in the name of
Christ», such
as Catholic Dominican inquisitor Tomas de Torquemada (1420 - 98) of Spain, who ruled tyrannically for 15 years (1483 - 98, with the blessings of Pope Sixtus IV [who praise him for «directing his zeal to those matters that contribute to the praise of God»] and Innocent VIII) and saw that over 114,000 (of which 10, 220 were burned at the stake) people were put to death.
IF
Christ were here today, He would call Heaven and earth to witness against these modern day money - changers masquerading
as religious leaders while spreading hate in His name.
The evidence for this phenomenon is incontestable: the influx of non «SBC evangelical scholars into Baptist seminaries; the changing of the name of the Baptist Sunday School Board to the more generic LifeWay Christian Resources; the presence and high profile of non «Baptist
leaders on SBC platforms, e.g., the closing message at the 1998 SBC delivered by Dr. James Dobson, a Nazarene; the aggressive participation of the SBC's Ethics and
Religious Liberty Commission
as an advocate for the conservative side of the culture wars conflict; new patterns of cooperation between SBC mission boards and evangelical ministries such
as Promise Keepers, Campus Crusade for
Christ, the National Association of Evangelicals, Prison Fellowship, and World Vision.
Gil you have asked some very good questions why does bad things happen in the world i personally do nt know God did nt explain to Job either why he had to suffer. What i do know is that God desires that none of us should perish but that all would have eternal life in him through Jesus
Christ. This world will one day pass away and the real world will be reborn so our focus
as christians is on whats to come and being a witness in the here and now. Both good and bad happens to either the righteous or the sinner so what are we to make of that. What we do know is that God will set all things right at the appointed time the wicked will be judged and the righteous will be rewarded for there faith isnt that enough reason for us to believe.Free will is only a reality if we can choose between good and bad but our hearts are deceitfully wicked we naturally are inclined toward sin that is another reason whyt we need to be saved from ourselves so what are we to do.For me
Christ died and rose again that is a fact witnessed by over 500 people that were alive at the time and was recorded by historians how many other
religious leaders do you know that did that or did the miracles that Jesus did.
As far
as the bible is concerned much of the archelogical evidence has proven to be correct and many of prophetic words spoken many hundreds of years ago have come to pass including both the birth and the death of Jesus.Interested in what philosophy you are believing in if other than a faith in Jesus
Christ so how does that philosophy give you the assurance that you are saved. Its really simple with christianity we just have to believe in Jesus
Christ.brentnz
We need something that can fire contemplatives and other
religious, priests, preachers, teachers, catechists, theologians, parents, youth
leaders, «the men and women in the pew» and the youth of today's Church
as they all do their bit to learn from God's Word and announce the Good News revealed by Jesus
Christ in His words, miracles, Passion and Resurrection.
