I confess that I have judged
Christian women in my community for their lack of theological depth, despite the fact that when somebody gets sick or has a baby, they are the first to show up with casseroles, tissues, offers to help, and shoulders to cry on.

One major fault
in the espoused parallel relationships between
Christian Privilege and other systems of systemic inequality that disproportionately impact racial minorities,
women and the LGBTQ +
community is that religious preference is scarcely, if ever, legal to request as a means of legitimizing documentation for state issued IDs, legal documents, marriage certificates, employment applications, etc..
An Athanasius, inspired by a genuinely
Christian monasticism, not only had a more (comparative to his times) wholesome understanding of human sexuality and marriage, as well as
women s ministerial roles
in the church, but also struggled (to the point of being expelled from his diocese five times by those supporting the imperium) for an orthodoxy which would confess the God revealed
in Christ as a
community of consubstantial Persons.
Jesus depended on the financial provision of
women for the welfare of his ministry, but we teach that men are to be the sole providers
in Christian communities.
And those who do live the life of the
community, seeking to appropriate for themselves its central affirmations, yet unconcerned about the peripheral, secondary, and now and again misleading assertions and practices that have often been associated with those essentials; those who learn gradually to join
in its prayers and receive the sacraments, and to read the Bible with open, earnest, yet critical minds; those who endeavor with heart and soul to express
in daily life the
Christian principle of life «
in Christ» — such men and
women will find increasingly that they genuinely belong.

Apparently, various first century churches struggled with the teachings of Jesus, Paul, and others about the new roles
women could assume
in the
Christian community.
Any congregation that is committed to
Christian action
in its
community needs to have at its center or very close to it, a group of men and
women prepared to be — to use military language — the reconnaissance and intelligence force of the main body.
And it is a
Christian community where
women can be conscientized for their active role
in society.
None the less, if it should turn out that one can be a
Christian without holding firmly to personal persistence beyond death, this is significant; and since, as I have just been saying, I think that such is indeed the case, I believe that nobody ought to require acceptance of some variety of personal persistence as a pre-requisite for a welcome into the
Christian community which is grounded on that faith
in God
in Jesus Christ which the
community exists to make available to men and
women in every age.

Sadly, so many
Christians have turned a blind eye to the plight of
women, both
in our own
communities and abroad.
So the «open
Christian» university is able to welcome into its
community of inquiry an invigorating pluralism — both on the faculty and
in the student body, men and
women of varying religious commitments,
Christian and non-
Christian — without compromise to the integrity of its educational (that is to say, anthropological) mission.
The attitude of the Alliance was clearly stated at the Princeton General Council of 1954: «We believe that the deep stirring among the churches and
Christian groups to surmount the barriers and to express the unity of the
community of believers
in accordance with the mind and will of Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church... is of God, not men [and
women], a sign of the Holy Spirit.»
It should be borne
in mind,
in the second place, that there continued to exist within the Islamic Society churches, monasteries, synagogues, and temples serving
Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, and others; that all these survived, not as ghost
communities or depressed classes, but as
communities of living men and
women who pursued their callings, professed their faith openly, and entered into polemics
in defense of it; who continued to develop their religious, philosophical, and scientific legacies; and who were at all times
in communication with their Muslim neighbors.
Any man or
woman who is willing to expose himself to the truth of the
Christian faith
in the life of the
Christian community, nourished by the worship of
Christian people, will discover that the truth becomes true for him.

in support of the action being taken to preserve the eight indigenous ethnic groups, the small but very ancient and entrenched Jewish
community, the Gulf's only synagogue and Jewish cemetery, the black
community that is part of the East African diaspora, the fifth of the population that is non-Muslim, the half of that fifth which is
Christian, the strictly optional status of the
women's headscarf, the Sunni third of Bahraini Muslims, the requirement that all legislation be approved by both Houses of Parliament, the election of the Lower House by universal suffrage, the regular appointment of
women to the Upper House to make up for their dearth
in the elected Lower House, the presence
in the Upper House of a Jewish man and a
Christian woman (the latter the first
woman ever to chair a Parliament
in the Arab world), the present position of a Jewish
woman as Ambassador to the United States, the very close ties to Britain, and the fact that all of this is perfectly acceptable even to Salafi Members of Parliament.
