Christianity is to
gain a motivational
foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action.
It has likewise been demonstrated that, in spite of the innate universality of the appeal of Jesus, extraneous factors may prove so adverse that
Christianity will be prevented from
gaining a
foothold or, where once it has been strong, will be entirely eliminated.
