After thoroughly reviewing existing literature on the pros and cons of crop diversification, and interviewing local experts, it became clear that some Ghanaian
cocoa farmers do diversify — most commonly in the form of shade crops or intercrops at the early stages of the
cocoa plant's
life — but the
approach is uncoordinated and haphazard.
