countries reached somewhere between 4.8 and 12.7 million metric tons in 2010.
As poor
countries and their people move out of poverty, though, they will have a greater impact on the
land they occupy, and will consume more resources and produce more emissions and
waste, just as the rich world does today.
While it is important to continue this important work on
land degraded by mining, as climate change priorities develop rehabilitation of
country degraded by other activities such as agriculture, pastoral,
land clearing,
waste dumps, access development including roads and water, and tourism will become equally important.
