Once I'm done editing, I'll be copying the text out of Vellum chapter by chapter, pasting it into an empty word doc, copying it again, and pasting it into
the Createspace template.
This is part 3 of 3 for my method of setting up
a CreateSpace template for the pocketbook sized book.
Here is a sample of what I had designed using
the CreateSpace template myself for my book «The Ultimate Guide to Cooking Rice the Indian Way» and what Alerrandre did with the same image.
When I came to create the cover for the print version I rashly decided to create a cover from scratch rather than use one of the many
CreateSpace templates.

Then there's the commenter who recommends the
templates from
Createspace.
alekhouse — I found
Createspace is a good company, in fact I found that they offer
templates for all your writing, and you will simply send it to them in a word format should you choose.
Cover art is also important but Kindle and
CreateSpace do have some
templates you can try.
An indie author is an author who maintains complete creative control by self - publishing his or her book through companies such as
CreateSpace or Book Baby, both of whom offer editing, proofreading services - for - hire, along with cover and page design services or do - it - yourself
templates.
Use IngramSpark
template because Amazon
CreateSpace does not do hardbacks.
IngramSpark gives you a free bar code with the
template and you can use the
template for your
CreateSpace books, too.
The next book will likely use the
templates, but go to
CreateSpace instead.
CreateSpace offers a cover creator, but it creates very basic, very
template - looking covers.
However, many self publishing platforms (e.g.,
Createspace by Amazon) offer helpful tools and
templates to address these concerns.
To DIY typesetting for print, try one of the free
templates from CreateSpace, or a paid option from Book Design T
templates from
CreateSpace, or a paid option from Book Design
TemplatesTemplates.
I did [inner layout] myself, using Microsoft Word and the
templates you can download from
CreateSpace.
If you are creating a cover for a paperback book, you can also download a blank
template that is the correct size for your book free from
CreateSpace here.
I usually use Bookow.com to make exact
templates —
Createspace's
templates are averaged to the nearest closest page and will usually be off by a few pages.
Either download a
template if possible (
CreateSpace has them for their print covers) or at least check the preferred dimensions of each e-book retailer.
The first stage to setting up a print cover is to get the
template from
Createspace.

templates were released recently, I was one of the first to jump on them to help me convert my e-book into a quality
CreateSpace POD product.

If you used a
CreateSpace interior
template to create your manuscript file, make sure it's in a trim size that KDP supports.
I've recently self - published using
CreateSpace and after the bad experience of using their
template and having my book turn out pretty bad, I found some great tutorials (listed here http://laurasconfessions.com/2014/02/01/what-i-learned-from-word/) to format my own file and submit that.

Your cover designer will need to give you three versions of your cover: One for IngramSpark using the
template provided by their generator, another version for
CreateSpace with white space for the barcode they automatically insert, and a version (front cover only) for the eBook.
Lulu accepted interior files created with
CreateSpace's
template, so I didn't have to redo the book to order the sample.

CreateSpace calls this the «trim size,» and it will determine the page layout of your manuscript as well as the cover design
template.
I require my cover artists to give me the PSD or XCF (layered versions) so that I can make those adjustments once I've gotten the appropriate cover
template from
CreateSpace (they generate it based on the size of the file you upload).
I keep petitioning
Createspace to offer inDesign
templates for their covers.
They appear to be the same
templates CreateSpace uses.
I even tried using the
templates provided by
CreateSpace but it just turned my text into all caps.
Just as an FYI,
CreateSpace does offer a
template where you can upload your e-book cover.
Now authors can use these
templates on their books, create PDFs and upload them to
CreateSpace, BookBaby, Lightning Source, Spark, and Lulu or to any printing company.

Joel Friedlander sells MS Word
templates that are supposed to make it much, much easier to format books for
CreateSpace.
I've openly recommended
CreateSpace as a strategy for many clients as a test, stepping stone, even a way to enter the publishing world with the giant Amazon in play — but, and always a but in the mix — there has to be editing, get a professional cover done and yes, lay it out — don't do the
template Amazon version... than have the layout designer do the uploading — for less than $ 3,000 (most likely), you have quality cover design, interior, editing and you are rocking and rolling with the big boys — you get max percentage on eBook payout, you have print books available on demand and you can start marketing your work and words like crazy.
For the paperback edition, I'm publishing through
CreateSpace, so their formatting
templates will be useful.
The
templates from Lightning Source and
CreateSpace are helpful in this regard.
The PDF should be 300 dpi, and there are helpful automated
template builders for both
CreateSpace and Lightning Source that provide a PDF layout based on the trim size, page count, and paper type of the print interior.
