More than 120 million years ago, while giant dinosaurs crashed through the forests in fearsome combat, a quieter drama unfolded in
the Cretaceous underbrush: some lineage of hairy, diminutive creatures stopped laying eggs and gave birth to live young.
Listening to the panel members from the traditional publishing industry talk, I thought of dinosaurs shuffling through the
underbrush in some
cretaceous forest, looking up at the sky when a bright shiny thing comes barrelling through the atmosphere.
