With the conference theme of «knowledge systems, social justice and racism in health professional education», many sessions heard about efforts to improve
cultural safety in teaching,
learning and practice environments.
Cultural safety has become so embedded into all systems that it has become the norm — rather than something exceptional that people have to
learn when they start training to be a nurse or a doctor.
Phillips also said in his keynote, «If you want to Close the Gap, you have to deal with racism», and stated that
cultural safety is not a one - time achievement, but a process of continual
learning.
