At The 2014 Whitney Biennial
The workshop will feature a
presentation by Al Miner, Assistant
Curator of Contemporary Art
at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
The
presentation will be accompanied by a digitized version of the original Robert Irwin catalogue, published by the Whitney
at the time of his 1977 exhibition, which includes an ambitious combination of images, project plans, and theoretical texts written by Irwin himself as well as biographical and exhibition information compiled by the exhibition's
curator, Richard Marshall.
The exhibition's
presentation at The Frick Collection is coordinated by Director Ian Wardropper and Charlotte Vignon, Associate
Curator of Decorative Arts.
During this special
presentation, curatorial researcher Jane Panetta, who worked closely with Irwin and Whitney Chief
Curator and Deputy Director for Programs Donna De Salvo, will share an insider's perspective, shedding light on both the process of installing such an ambitious site - conditioned work, and on the meaning of Irwin's work for the Whitney and its audiences
at this current moment.
The Institute also will award honorary degrees to contemporary artist,
curator, and social, political, and cultural critic Ai Weiwei, who will accept his honorary degree via a video
presentation which will be screened
