As Motorola is the exclusive partner to make
Droid phones for Verizon, the companies have come together to make «
Droid Editions» of the Moto Z. There's the Moto Z
Droid Edition, which is simply the Moto Z with
Droid branding and slightly different software, and then the exclusive Moto Z Force
Droid Edition, which has a 3500 mAh battery and bigger 21MP camera.
Though its
Droid brand helped catapult Android into the mainstream, Verizon is used to highly restricting and modifying the
phones on its network.
Externally, the
phones simply sport some fresh colors and
Droid branding, but other than that are identical to what will be sold internationally.
The new
Droid phablet should be released in mid-2015, by Verizon of course, although it's not clear whether any other carrier will also have access to a different version of the
phone without
Droid branding.
